Instructional Design

An instructional designer is a professional educator who uses a systematic process, or "model," when developing training and education programs. To produce results for clients, instructional designers must listen carefully and read "between the lines" in working with organizational cultures and dynamics. They must communicate skillfully with and without the aid of technology, making sure understanding is inherent in the process.

Christine Walker is an experienced instructional designer and technical and educational writer, who has accounting, business, and environmental compliance background in developing training programs, all supported by well honed English skills. She believes in the team approach to training development, in which Christine and a subject matter expert from your organization collaborate on the components listed below. The subject matter expert might be a safety officer, environmental manager, human resources director, supervisor, or other knowledgeable person.

The instructional design team's process would usually include some or all of the following components:

  • Research
  • Planning
  • Cost-benefit analysis
  • Audience/learner analysis
  • Task analysis
  • Identification of resources
  • Design of learner assessment instruments and strategies
  • Preparation of train-the-trainer materials and strategies
  • Preparation of student/trainee instructional and test materials
  • Pilot-testing of training designs
  • Coordinating the publishing of training materials
  • Assisting with records management of training results
  • Follow-up study of employee compliance

CWA's instructional design services may be engaged at an hourly rate or a negotiated total fee. Quality assurance regarding our service includes task checklists, regular status reports, surveys of our client's satisfaction, and follow-up on needs revealed in the quality assurance process.
